The Maverick Company Story — How One Small Fix Revived a Real Estate Empire

A Comeback Story from the Mojave Desert

One of my earliest and most memorable clients was Ron Axelrod, founder of The Maverick Company. Ron wasn’t just another real estate broker. He was a former Naval aviator, a member of the Blue Angels, and a true pioneer in selling pre-developed land across the Mojave Desert.

At the height of his success, his real estate office had a fountain in the lobby — the kind of detail that tells you everything about how well he was doing.

But when I met him, things looked very different.


When Success Slows Down

Despite years of growth and a global client base, Ron hit a point where the phone stopped ringing.
He had paid for multiple website redesigns, invested heavily in technology, and tried to modernize… but nothing worked.

The problem?
The most basic part of the entire business was missing:

👉 No phone number on the website.
👉 No easy way for prospects to contact him.

This is a mistake I still see businesses make today — not because they don’t care, but because they assume the “experts” they hired handled the basics.


The Fix Was Surprisingly Simple

I told Ron the truth:
“You don’t need another full website rebuild. You just need to let people reach you.”

We updated the site and prominently displayed his phone number.
Within days, the calls came back.

This alone changed his entire business.

We posted market updates, regional development news, and Mojave Desert land trends.
This positioned Ron as the authority for remote buyers.

Long before SEO became a buzzword, we optimized his site and content.
Traffic exploded to 10,000–20,000 visitors per month — one of the busiest real-estate-related websites in all of Southern California.


The Results? Almost Hard to Believe.

Ron became so successful that he literally only worked half the year.

The other half?
He told me to shut down the website because he didn’t want more leads.

Every once in a while, you meet a client whose story defines what PrimeConcepts is all about — helping real businesses make powerful comebacks through smart, affordable technology.

One of my earliest success stories came from The Maverick Company, founded by Ron Axelrod, a former Naval aviator and Blue Angels team member who became one of the High Desert’s most successful real estate brokers.

Ron specialized in pre-developed land sales and built a thriving company that sold property all over the world. At his peak, his office even had a fountain in the lobby — a symbol of just how well he was doing.

But when I met him, things had changed.


The Problem: Technology Without Results

By the late 1990s, Ron’s office had gone quiet.
He had already paid for several website redesigns, hoping the internet would revive his business.

But the phones weren’t ringing. The problem?
Nobody could even find his phone number on the website.

It’s a lesson I’ve seen repeated hundreds of times since: businesses invest heavily in “modern tech,” but the simplest details — contact access, clarity, and user flow — are overlooked.


The Fix: Simplicity Wins

I told Ron we didn’t need a new website.
We just needed to make it easy for customers to call him.

So, we added his phone number and improved navigation.
Within days, the calls came flooding back. Sales followed.

That small change completely turned things around.


The Transformation

Once business started flowing again, we gradually rebuilt his digital presence:

Property Listings Online — Each property had its own page, something rare back then.
Early Email Marketing — We replaced his costly printed newsletters with email campaigns, reaching clients around the world for a fraction of the cost.
Local Market Insights — We published Mojave Desert real estate news and updates to keep investors engaged.
Search Engine Growth — The Maverick Company site quickly reached 10,000–20,000 visitors per month, becoming one of the busiest real estate websites in Southern California.

Before long, Ron was so successful that he only worked half the year — literally asking me to shut down the site during his off-season.


The Lesson

This project taught me something timeless:
Success doesn’t always come from big budgets or flashy designs.
It comes from clarity, communication, and connection — giving people what they actually need.
